[24 Jul 2006|09:55pm] |
current time is 1:49 a.m. lupo and i are having a text message conversation, although i must admit that i am secretly saddened by the fact that these messages are costing me ten cents apiece, yet for some reason am unable to stop. i'm also secretly wanting to text message a female friend of mine, but at the same time am trying to play it cool. shane will instantly know who i'm talking about. two girls, who are admittedly drunk, have just entered the establishment and are taking up camp in the adjacent booth. i will undoubtedly be annoyed with them, i can sense it already. hopefully they aren't to the point where they feel the need to converse with total strangers. i don't want to have to explain what i'm writing, however, it would be funny if i let them read it. i'm banking on the chance that my beard will make me appear mysterious and unapproachable. perhaps this metrosexual-hobo look will finally pay off. if only i were european i could possibly turn this into a lucrative modeling career. does it make me unpatriotic to assume that america isn't ready for the grizzled metrosexual revolution? i think not. the girls at the table next to me have just broken the silence between us in a way that was wholly unexpected. they recognized me as a lifeguard from the pool and mentioned my resemblance to someone they know. this is a comparison i've heard before, but it's to an individual i've still never seen. supposedly he's attractive, so i guess that's good news. i'm curious to know if this guy ever gets told that he looks like me. i also wonder if we'll ever meet. if so, i'm sure we'll have the same reaction, which is the reaction anyone has when being compared to someone else: denial. unless of course the other person is an uber-sexy celebrity, then the reaction becomes modest acceptance. (this may not apply to celebrity impersonators)
i became a baseball fan recently. normally this should happen between the ages of eight and twelve, but i guess i'm just a late bloomer. i was under the impression that the only things left to discover in life as a twenty-something were cocaine and anal sex. i was obviously wrong, yet still hopeful. but why baseball? who wakes up one day and is suddenly interested in knowing what a ground-rule double means or how to throw a slider? i'm sure there's no answer to that, so i must accept my fate. i'm still learning about the finer points of things like balks, fly balls, and check swings. the concept of a designated hitter i find rather ridiculous: i can't quite remember which league permits its use, but i'm almost positive they are a bunch of pussies. regardless, i may have figured out why i'm so facinated with this game now...i really just want to watch someone turn a triple play. who's my favorite team, you ask? well shane said that he pictured me as a detroit tigers fan, so that's who i'm going to start pulling for. i have to admit that i'm somewhat pleased with my arbitrary attachment to detroit. i've probably made bigger decisions with even less thought. besides, a tiger is a tangible force to be reckoned with. it's hard for me to imagine any other mascot winning in a fight against a tiger. this of course is assuming that the humanoid mascots (i.e. yankees, rangers, pirates, indians) aren't allowed to use weapons. i'm not exactly sure what a dodger is, but it sounds like it would have the best chance.
before i go, let me say this: fuck RBI Baseball for the original nintendo gaming system. i guarantee it's release in 1986 is somehow responsible for the space shuttle Challenger explosion and the death of Thin Lizzy singer/bassist Phil Lynott. oh, and let's not forget about the death of scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard...not as tragic, but interesting nonetheless.

on my way out the door today i realized that i had nothing to read at work.
i studied my book collection and grabbed Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs by Chuck Klosterman, which will make the third or fourth time i've read it.
this prompted me to think about all of the books i own that i've read more than once.
i then decided to compile a list.
BOOKS I'VE READ MORE THAN ONCE
Kurt Vonnegut Slaughterhouse Five Deadeye Dick Cat's Cradle Jailbird Bluebeard Mother Night Player Piano The Sirens of Titan Hocus Pocus Timequake Galapagos* Bagombo Snuffbox Welcome to the Monkey House*
Chuck Palahniuk Choke Lullaby Survivor Invisible Monsters Diary
Chuck Klosterman Sex, Drugs, and Cocoa Puffs* Killing Myself to Live
Catch-22 by Joseph Heller Lord of the Rings trilogy (including The Hobbit) by J.R.R. Tolkien Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (all five books) by Douglas Adams The Zombie Survival Guide by Max Brooks** Clerks/Chasing Amy (screenplay) by Kevin Smith
* books i've read at least three times ** used as a reference for my senior seminar, so i've read it a million times (approx.)
i thinking i may need to buy some more books

"but tex, you're so pure and wholesome...why do this to yourself?"
that was old tex.
new tex will be more fun. new tex will be more exciting. new tex will seem cooler.
new tex will smoke.
not because he really wants to start, but to see if he can quit.
for the next month or so, tex will smoke half a pack per day.
and then he's going to stop.
what's this all going to prove?...probably nothing.
but i'm bored and i'm boring.

[24 Jan 2006|03:03am] |
it's been a while. not only for an actual post on here, but also since i've made a mix cd.
..and it's a crazy one.
there were a couple of songs that have been floating around on my computer, but hadn't made it to a cd yet and somehow were always forgotten until i'd inevitably get in my car and want to hear them. so in my best interest, and because i had some time to kill today, i decided to throw together this rather eclectic compilation.
1. Luno (Bloc Party cover) - Death From Above 1979 i didn't really plan out the order, but this one happened to get added first and i'm glad it did because i can't think of a better song to start out any disc, mix cd or not. it's a little synth, a little bass, and a lot of rock.
2. Woman Like a Man - Damien Rice then you get to one of Damien Rice's heaviest songs, even though it's still acoustic. unfortunately it didn't make it to his full-length album, but did end up on his b-sides record that came out afterwards.
3. 6 o'clock - Dream Theatre this is probably Dream Theatre's best song...second would be "Caught in a Web"...i think that's the right name. anyway, this is a fun song if you're into not-so-popular metal. 4. Godzilla (Blue Oyster Cult cover) - Fu Manchu bass heavy, but without all that pesky bass...you figure it out. regardless, this is a damn good cover song.
5. Fear of the Dark (live) - Iron Maiden 6. Hallowed Be Thy Name - Iron Maiden everyone needs a little Maiden in their life.
7. Truly, Truly - Grant Lee Buffalo so yeah, i heard this song for the first time the other day and i loved it instantly. this is the kind of song that you want to learn on guitar and play for your girlfriend...especially if think you're still living in the early to mid-90s.
8. Album of the Year - The Good Life 9. You're Not You - The Good Life and then you have these two acoustic songs, one more upbeat, the other kinda sad and slow. the first one sounds like everything that never happened to me...the second one sounds...well, kinda sad and slow.
10. Breakdown - Self 11. While the Gangters Sleep - Self hmm...well i needed something a little funky, so i randomly chose these.
12. Blue Orchid - The White Stripes 13. The Denial Twist - The White Stripes i'd say these are two of the best songs on the new album..."blue orchid" doesn't sound very much like the Stripes, but it rocks so well...and i've had "the denial twist" in my head lately because that new video for it is so damn cool.
14. Muffler - Whirlwind Heat this song only lasts one minute. it's good...but you gotta love the Heat.
15. (not a song, but a story by Steve Poltz about how he met Jewel) so yeah, this is just Steve Poltz talking about how he ended up meeting Jewel while on the road, and then later they tracked down drug smugglers with mexican federales, and then got high on "spaghetti weed"...which then segues into the next song...
16. You Were Meant For Me - Steve Poltz in case you didn't know, Jewel didn't write this song...regardless, i still think it's a good song and this is Steve performing it live for XM radio.
